Rebecca Tanda

Rebecca Tanda (b.1994) is a visual artist working primarily with glass. With this material as her focal point, she challenges our material preconceptions and re-imagines our relationship to geography, territory and natural history. Rebecca is the recipient of the Charles A. Dana Foundation Glass Scholarship in 2019 and the Lee Woo Sing College Arts & Culture Grant in 2016. She was an artist in residence at Franconia Sculpture Park (2018, USA), the Foundation Fiminco (2020-2021, FR) and at the American Center for Art & Culture Paris (2021-2022, FR). She exhibited in the Ireland Glass Biennale and at the Romanian Jewelry Week 2023.

She works and trains between Zwiesel (DE) and Innsbruck (AT) as a scientific glassblower.

During the residency in S12 she created a series of pâte-de-vere relief sculptures that combine different glass fusing and experimental hot assemblage techniques. The series of reliefs were created with lost wax casting, and have glass rod inclusions of elements that were made on a flame working torch. The reliefs accompany a central fused ornament that evoke a delicate, fragmented landscape. The ornament and the pâte-de-vere relief frames are connected with chains that are joined through holes in the frame or stitched through silicone. These relief sculptures expand a formal language interested in negative space, chainlinks and blurring the distinction between sculpture and ornament.
