D Rosen
D Rosen operates from the position that questions of animality are not binary but rather a tangle of ecologies and richly complicated identities framed by culture. Rosen attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2018, received an MFA from the University of Chicago in 2013, and a BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2011. They exhibit and publish internationally.
During their residency Rosen worked on the project Queer Deity IV which is based on Joan Roughgarden’s research detailed in Evolution’s Rainbow. Roughgarden is a trans biologist who describes queer behaviours within femme vampire Bats.Â
Using this research and more, Rosen has been sculpting a grouping of vampire Bats as a part of their ongoing Queer Deity series, which celebrates queer and trans life in more-than-human worlds. In S12 the bats were casted in glass.
The residency was carried out in collaboration with USF Verftet.
