DH McNabb

DH McNabb (b.1980) started his journey academically in 1999 at Centre College, Kentucky and then continued with a MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012. Corning, Seattle, Prague, Lybster, Weil am Rhein, Murano, Nuutajärvi, Istanbul, Toyama, Saint-louis les Bitche and Bergen are just a few of the places this material has taken him. Along the way, he has been fortunate to work, assist and collaborate with many artists who have helped him in the medium and in life in general.

For DH glassmaking is about collaboration, whether it is with another glassmaker, an artist or designer. As far as art and design, he prefers to fluctuate between the two; ultimately coming to realize that he is a maker and a catalyst for this material. However, the most important thing the material has taught him is that it’s not necessarily what you can make but what you can expose… 

In S12 DH McNabb is revisiting a project he started as artist in residence in S12 back in 2016. With sunsets as his inspiration, he is making sheet glass out of blown cylinders. The sheet glass is then fused into blocks that he cold work into cylinder shapes and then attach them hot to a vessel with corresponding colors.
