Brian Corr

Brian Corr creates sculptures and large installations that explore perceptual liminality as a means to facilitate contemplative experience. By activating light and shadow through the organization of volume and void, his work seeks to embody a sense of the profound and the transcendent.

Brian holds a PhD from Australian National University. In his dissertation, he examined the aesthetic and philosophical elements of contemplative space in Japanese architecture. Corr’s work is represented in many public and private collections worldwide, including the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the Denver Art Museum. Brian Corr is also an accomplished glassblower with over 20 years of experience. He has taught at schools such as the Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Crafts, Pilchuck Glass School, JamFactory, Namseoul University, Sydney College of the Arts, and Australian National University. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center at Hastings College.

At S12, Brian explored new directions in his practice, including an ongoing interest in lighting design and further investigation into the nexus of form and pattern.
