Lene Charlotte Tangen
Lene Charlotte Tangen was an artist in residence at S12 in April/May 2022. The Arctic environment is the main inspiration behind Tangen`s sculptural work. She aims to recreate the ice structure , form and materiality in her glass sculptures and wants to freeze a moment of transformation. The optical qualities of glass gives space to highlight contrasts, the key elements of her work. The inner forms are often shaped to illustrate organic movement, frozen in time and space.
At the same time she explores the fragile material glass, experiments and push it to its utmost limits. Her work is often experimental and she freely combines glass with other materials such as plaster, stone and metal.
Lene Charlotte Tangen graduated from KADK, Bornholm in 2011, and has since established her own studio outside Oslo. She has participated in several exhibitions in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and China, been nominated for several awards, and in 2021 received a ten-year working grant from The Norwegian government grant for artists. Her works have been purchased by Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum, KODE, the National Museum and Hejian City Museum, China and more.
During her stay in S12, Tangen has worked with a technique she calls “plaster casting”, invented by the artist herself.
