Morgan Madison
Morgan Madison, born and raised in Denver, CO is a Pacific Northwest based artist. His practice incorporates art making in numerous media and teaching of processes specific to kiln formed glass. His work revolves around the concept of place and is an investigation of the elements that comprise the natural and built environments around us. His interest in these elements derives from their ability to tell us about the character of the places we inhabit and, most importantly, about ourselves.Â
Morgan Madison graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a BA in Studio Art, they have honed their expertise through residencies at institutions like Pilchuck Glass School and North Lands Creative in Scotland, and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City in 2015. Madison has taught masterclasses at venues such as Warm Glass UK, the Pittsburgh Glass Center, and Bullseye Glass Resource Centers. Their work has been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including In Between (2023) at Pier 69, Seattle, and the BAM Biennial 2021 at Bellevue Arts Museum.
During his time at S12 Madison will be using inspiration from home to explore new technical approaches to the creation of 2D kiln formed glass panels that are imbued with depth and resonance. He will also be spending time both during and after the residency researching, observing and gathering new sources of inspiration from Norway to take home and incorporate into new works informed by the results of his explorations at S12.
In S12 he explored color, drawing and layering in glass. Part of his work was shown in the exhibition Still in Love, a collaboration between S12 and Northing Space.Â
