Noah Hartley
Hartley completed a Bachelor of Design Arts (Glass) with Honours at the Australian National University School of Art and Design in 2017. During his studies, he was introduced to glassblowing, which became a central focus of his artistic journey. In 2019, he was accepted into the prestigious two-year Associate Training Program at JamFactory’s Glass Studio in Adelaide, South Australia. This program provided intensive training, balancing technical skill development with creative practice and production work.
To further refine his craft, Hartley participated in multiple masterclasses at renowned institutions, including Canberra Glassworks in Australia, Pilchuck Glass School in Washington, USA, and the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, USA. Hartley is currently the Studio Manager at S12 Gallery and Workshop.
Hartley’s work draws inspiration from everyday interactions, exploring material, form, and color in glass. His pieces examine how the interaction of form and color can influence our perception of objects, inviting viewers to consider the act of observing and take notice of things perhaps overlooked or unexpected.
During his residency, Hartley was influenced by color field paintings, funk ceramics, and—perhaps unexpectedly—“particularly good rocks,” resulting in a series of intimately scaled sculptures.
