Young & Loving 2011!

For the fifth year in a row S12 opens the autumn season with the exhibition Young and Loving!

This years exhibitors are all international artists that refer to readymade or industrial production as a material base in their artistic practice. They are young, promising and transform abundance to art. Whether their raw material was junk, mass produced objects, energy from the sun or sand in the desert, it is now reworked into art made of glass.

By using the term readymade as a thematic umbrella, S12 would like this exhibition to contribute to the thought exchange that takes place within and around the material based arts in Norway and Europe. Items and objects produced by the industry have served as a raw material and visual base within the arts and crafts for a long time. Viewed in connection with the glass and ceramics industry being lost or shipped out, and the tendency to merge or close down glass and ceramic departments in art schools all over Europe, the field is going through a big change. Is the use of readymade objects a replacement and substitute of material and craft knowledge? This exhibition shows how a handful of fresh artists find inspiration, hope and matter in industry and found objects.
