John Moran

Realism in expression and content is an important part of Morans work. He pushes the technical limits of glass sculpting and confronts the viewer with unpleasant and relevant topics.

His work reflects his interests in politics, philosophy, religion and human social behavior meshed with his sense of humor and a touch of altruism.  In S12 the sculptures are of a more serious character such as “No Child Left Behind” – consisting of two seemingly naked and starving children, placed in a garbage container perforated by bullet holes.

Glass is used to sculpt any exposed flesh on the figures. The unexposed body is created through a variety of materials, mainly handcrafted clothing covered in epoxy resin, which gives the appearance of movement to the figures even though they are often on the verge of death.

John Moran is a “political refugee” from the U.S who lives and works in Ghent, Belgium. He will be an Artist in Residence at S12 during March/April and will be attending the opening.
