
Æsa Björk was one of the founders of S12 in 2005, and managing director until summer 2011, and has since then been its artistic advisor. She was employed at the School of Art and Design, Sculpture/Dimensional Studies at Alfred University, NY from 2011-14. Æsa received her Masters degree from the Glass Department of Edinburgh College of Art in 1997. She also studied as an exchange student at the Prague Academy of Art and Design with Professor Vladimir Kopecky in 1994. She has spent considerable time at the Pilchuck Glass School both as a student, TA and Emerging Artist in Residence. In 2006 she was an artist in residence at the Corning Museum of Glass. She won the grand prize for the work Shield II at the Toyama International Glass Exhibition in 2018 and the First prize for her work Fragments at Coburger Glaspreis in 2022. Both works are now part of the permanent collections of these museums. Her work has been shown internationally and is also presented in the museum collections of KODE in Bergen, Trondheim Kunstindustrimuseum, the National Museum in Oslo and the National Museums of Scotland
