The roots of neon are embedded in commercial signage, a garish statement associated with capitalism and the underbelly of city nightlife.

The last exhibition of the year, Lightkeepers, is showing glass works where light is an important ingredient. The artists participating are Sarah Blood (uk/us), Laurent Fort (fr/us), Anna Mlasowsky (de/us), Kamila Mróz (pl), Nathaniel Rackowe (uk) and Lily Reeves/Krista Davis (us/ca).

For this exhibition Sarah Blood has invited a group of artists to be exhibited together with her. In selecting work for the exhibition, she primarily looked for artists who work with light in interesting ways. Whether working with neon, fluorescents or projection the work featured in Lightkeepers pushes the medium conceptually and/or technically, with a poetic way of working with light, as material for artistic expression rather than as spectacle.

The work of Sarah Blood is a response to the poetics of living. Concerned with light and phenomenology, she plays with the tension between materials, forms or objects. Lily Reeves and Krista Davis aka The Paradise Boys create video-sculptures that act as portals to propose what was, what could be, and what may yet be undiscovered. Influenced by Modernism Nathaniel Rackowe uses mass-produced construction materials at the same time as he is bringing the atmosphere of daylight fading into night into the gallery space. Kamila Mróz has a more organic and sculptural approach to neon referencing creatures and the biological world. For Laurent Fort wellness and contemplation, emotion and sensation are his main goals when creating unique pieces of light to be connected with nature and ourselves. In Anna Mlasowskys work neon and text are synonymous. Her interest in temporary situations and processes stems from her experience of feeling like a foreigner all her adult life.
