Saman Kalantari was an Artist in Residence  during October – November 2014.

He was born in Shiraz in Iran and got his B.A. in foreign languages from Azad University in 1994. Saman started working as a ceramic artist in 1992 and has in that capacity participated in several exhibitions both solo and group shows.

“I think of wastes as an artistic material, the presence of something residual and processes of things that happened or have been.I have been trying to push the glass to its limits and making new experiments.I try to express what different materials have in common or in contrast with each other and how they react when they are back to their origin.I use glass to explain the consistency, Fragility, mortality, and subtleness of human being, life, and nature.”

He left his country Iran, in 2004 and has since then been living in Italy.  In 2005 he began a two-year course at Vetroricerca Glas & Modern in Bolzano and discovered  a new medium: “Glass” which was the right material to describe his social experiences of life both in Iran and in Europe.  In 2007 he got his diploma. He won the Bullseye newcomer award from E -merge 2008 in the United States. His works were exhibited as a part of Emerge/Evolve in 2018 and in the International Exhibition of Glass in Kanazawa 2019. His works are published in Glasshouse, an international magazine for studio-glass (glashaus 3/2009) and Neues Glas / New Glass, International journal focusing on studio glass No. 3/2011.
